How to Save Money on Travel in the Philippines

A lot of people shy away from travelling with the fear of heavy spending for the trip. But that’s not the case, you don’t need to break an arm and leg to travel to the Philippines and have all the fun. Your itinerary could be long, and you can stay for as long as you want with a small budget. It’s all about planning and making research before going for the trip.

Have a daily budget-create a budget-friendly itinerary

Your itinerary determines how much you are going to spend during the trip. When you add expensive activities and destinations to your itinerary, it is going to hike your overall travel cost. So when planning, ensure to add budget-friendly items to your itinerary.

Book hostels instead of hotels

Hotels are fancy, comfortable, and cosy, but there is a price for it. While class is different for every hotel, what you pay per night is way higher than what you’d pay per night in a hostel. Whether you are travelling in a group or solo, booking hostels will save you a lot since accommodation is one of the items that eats up most of the money.

Avoid traveling during holidays

When you travel during the holiday when everyone else is travelling, then you are going to incur high costs. The higher percentage of people traveling to the philippines do so during the holidays. Doing the opposite and travelling during low peak seasons is going to save you money. This way, you won’t have to pay tourist prices during high-peak seasons. And just because you don’t travel during the holidays, it doesn’t mean that you won’t have the same kind of fun.

Use local transportation

Local transportation is the best way to cut on your transportation costs. Tricycles and jeepneys are very common in the Philippines and your best bet when it comes to moving from one place to the other at affordable prices. You could also book local buses at BusTickets.ph as they are a good alternative for local transportation. Renting a car, using a taxi or Grab(an equivalent of Uber) is going to be expensive. But using local transportation is only going to use a fraction of what you would use.

Don’t travel alone

Another clever way to save money when traveling in the Philippines is to travel with friends. Going alone means that you pay for everything on your own, but travelling with a group of friends means you can pay. From transport money(rental cars & taxis) to accommodation and food costs, this makes a big difference. Even more, you can take advantage of group deals and save a huge amount of money. And it doesn’t have to be a group of friends you travel with, you can also travel with your partner, this cuts the individual costs in half or so.

From basking and tanning in beautiful sandy beaches to hiking in scenic hills and everything in between, there just so much you could do when visiting the Philippines. Don’t just use up your savings for a trip, start planning early and set aside a budget for your travels. If you are planning to travel to the Philippines on a budget anytime soon, use the above tips and your pockets will thank you for it.
