Hyun Bin on Being Popular in PH: ‘I thank them [Filipinos] for the attention’

Hyun Bin is one of South Korea’s leading veteran actors with a career that spans 2 decades. His claim for fame was when he starred in the 2005 romantic comedy series “My Name is Kim Sam-soon” which also became popular in the Philippines when the tagalized version aired on GMA-7. It was a ratings hit that compelled the Kapuso network to create their own version of the show in 2008 which starred Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez and Mark Anthony Fernandez.

Hyun Bin‘s popularity in the country created a second wave when his latest drama “Crash Landing on You” became talk-of-the-town. Although it wasn’t shown on local television and only paid subscribers of Netflix were able to watch the series, CLOY still managed to become a pop culture sensation among Filipinos because of the charismatic performance of its lead stars Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin (who was recently voted by netizens as 2020’s Most Beautiful Woman in the World.)

And as evidence of Hyun Bin‘s massive popularity in the country, he landed multi-million endorsement deals from two giant companies: Smart Communications and Bench. Last May, we saw the Korean actor being launched in Smart’s major campaign for 2020. This month, he’s now endorsing the Philippine global apparel brand, Bench.

In an interview with METRO Style, the 37-year-old actor is grateful for the love of his Filipino fans.

“I thank them for their attention and if there will be an opportunity and time, I hope to have a chance to meet and communicate with the fans up close,” he said.

If not for the ongoing pandemic, both Smart and Bench could have brought Hyun Bin in the country for a meet and greet with his Filipino fans. But for now, all we can do is wait patiently for the Captain to land on Philippine soil in the future when the health crisis is over.
