GMA News issued a statement on Sunday, January 26, right after Vhong Navarro appeared on "Buzz ng Bayan" for an exclusive interview.

GMa News Statement

In the exclusive interview by Boy Abunda, the still recuperating Vhong Navarro name-dropped stunning model Deniece Cornejo as the woman behind the assault. Soon after, the name “Denise Millet Cornejo” topped Twitter’s trending topics leading netizens to look for the model’s facebook account. There they found a photo of Deniece together with GMA Network CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon with the caption: “with my lolo rod of GMA7 with lolo att. gozum.”

Because of the said post, netizens speculated that Deniece is Atty. Gozon’s granddaughter that’s why they made the hashtag #GMAPhilippinesWorstNetwork also trend on Twitter.

Here is GMA News’ official statement to clarify this issue:

This is to clarify that the complainant involved in the Vhong Navarro incident is not related to GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon.

From the moment GMA News learned of the story, it sought the side of Vhong Navarro. Chito Roño, his manager, gave GMA News a written statement, which was aired yesterday. Today, GMA News aired an interview with Navarro’s lawyer Atty Alma Mallonga. The report about the alleged attempted rape was based on the blotter filed at the Investigative Section of the Southern Police District where Vhong Navarro was taken after the incident. Other news organizations also reported it.
