Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres announces a sudden exit as judge of “American Idol” after just one season on the judge’s panel.
Ellen said in a statement that her job as judge “didn’t feel like the right fit for me” and added that she told Fox and the producers of the show that she would like to leave.
“It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for,” she said.
Fox, which broadcasts the top-rated reality singing contest, said it supported her decision.
“We love Ellen and understand and support her decision to bow out of Idol,” said Peter Rice, chairman of entertainment, Fox Networks Group. “We were fortunate to receive the humor, energy and love for talent that she brought to the show.”
Jennifer Lopez is rumored to replace Ellen De Generes as new American Idol judge.
