Pieta was originally a movie helmed by Carlo J. Caparas in 1983 starring the late Ace Vergel. It’s sequel, Pieta: Ikalawang Aklat, was topbilled by Bong Revilla Jr. and it follows the story of a mother’s enduring love for her son who is beset with pain and revenge.
In the tv adaptation to be produced by ABS-CBN, Ryan Agoncillo will play the lead role and Cherie Gil will play his mother.
Ryan’s first acting stint on ABS-CBN was in Krystala opposite Judy Ann Santos, her real life girlfriend. It was followed by movies such as Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo (with Judy Ann Santos), Umaaraw, Umuulan (with Precious Lara Quigaman), My Kuya’s Wedding (with Maja Salvador) and Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo (with Judy Ann Santos again). He also played support with Judy Ann Santos in Ysabella.
Ryan’s previous projects were all hosting stints for the shows Talk TV, The Explorer, Y Speak and Philippine Idol. He is currently the host in TV5’s Talentadong Pinoy which is being aired every Saturday. His next hosting job is Pinoy Fear Factor which is airing on ABS-CBN very soon.
Pieta marks Ryan’s first big project in her mother studio. This time, he is no longer under the shadow of his superstar girlfriend. He is the main character and it’s not just a dramatic series but an action series as well. He will undergo an acting workshop with veteran director Laurice Guillen. He will also taking martial arts lessons for the action scenes of his character. Pieta will be directed by Toto Natividad who helmed previous action teleseryes Panday and Palos.
