A Starry Christmas Everyone!

merry-christmas01.jpgAccording to the ever-dependable Wikipedia, Parols are ornamental star-like Christmas lanterns from the Philippines that are traditionally made out of bamboo and paper and comes in various sizes, shapes and designs, however its star-shape facade remains dominant. Its shape is said to be inspired by the star on the Nativity of Jesus that guided the Magi to the manger. It also symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and the Filipinos' hope and goodwill during the Christmas season. The parol or the "star-lantern" is one of the many things why Christmas in the Philippines is so festive and unique. But it's not just a traditional Christmas decoration or an iconic symbol of hope. It does not symbolizes the star-studded film festivals, the star-lighted carnivals and shopping malls, the diamond star, superstar, nova star, star for all seasons, megastar, and every star you see on tv. The parol is a reminder of the real "star" of Christmas. Wala munang stars ngayon. It's Christmas day, and it should be about the "Star" of the season! Merry Christmas my beloved Starmometer visitors! May the Morning Star shine his face upon us all!
