The local version of “The Housemaid” will also star Louise delos Reyes, Albert Martinez, Alma Moreno, and Cannes Best Actress winner Jaclyn Jose.

During the story conference for the film on Sunday, October 18, Kylie revealed that it took her three days to decide if she will take the daring role of the “housemaid” because the character is quite the opposite of her personality. She admitted that this is going to be her most challenging role ever especially after watching the original film which is tagged as an “erotic thriller.” However, it will also her biggest project yet on the big screen after playing support in such films as “Ang Panday,” “Kasal,” “Ulan,” and the recently released Netflix movie “Love the Way U Lie” so she considers this as a huge opportunity for her career. She added that she’s a little nervous when the role was offered to her because her co-stars are among the most respected veteran actors in the industry.

Here is the synopsis of “The Housemaid” as provided by Viva Films:

Daisy is hired as an au pair for Roxanne (pregnant with twins) and her rich husband William. Her primary task is watching the couple’s young daughter, Nami. Daisy is eager to connect to Nami, who gradually warms to her. William begins to secretly flirt with Daisy, enticing her with glasses of wine and his piano playing, and they eventually begin a sexual relationship. Despite the affair, Daisy is still warm and friendly to William’s oblivious wife, Roxanne; she even expresses enthusiasm and delight at the progress of Roxanne’s pregnancy.

Miss Martha (the other live-in maid, originally Roxanne’s childhood maid) witnesses Daisy and William having sex. She tries to subtly pry details from Daisy, but Daisy brushes her off casually. Later, Miss Martha reveals her suspicion to Roxanne’s mother that Daisy is pregnant. Roxanne’s mother then visits the family and stages an “accident,” resulting in Daisy falling from a ladder positioned at the top of a set of stairs. Dangling from a chandelier, Daisy begs Roxanne’s mother to pull her over the railing. Roxanne’s mother does not oblige, and Daisy falls. Suffering only a concussion, Daisy spends the night in the hospital. During her stay, she learns that she is pregnant and contemplates abortion. Meanwhile, the affair is revealed to Roxanne.

Roxanne’s mother, Madam Esther, instructs Roxanne to ignore the affair; she insists that all wealthy husbands will eventually cheat and that if Roxanne ignores it she can “live like a queen.” Later that night, Roxanne stands over Daisy’s bed with a golf club but is unable to strike the sleeping woman. The next day, Roxanne and her mother confront Daisy, offering her a large sum of money to have an abortion and leave. Roxanne knows that Daisy would not abort her child “for all the money in the world,” so she takes matters into her own hands by poisoning the milk Daisy drinks every day. Roxanne goes to the hospital and delivers her twin sons. William visits the hospital, where Roxanne makes her ill will toward him known. Furious, he returns home alone and finds Daisy in his bathtub. She reveals that she is pregnant and plans on keeping the baby.

Daisy succumbs to the effects of the poison, and Madam Esther arranges an abortion without Daisy’s consent. After the abortion, Miss Martha reveals that she told Madam Esther about Daisy’s pregnancy. Daisy is angry, but forgives Miss Martha and vows to get revenge on the family. After recovering from her abortion, Daisy sneaks into the house with Miss Martha’s assistance. William finds her breastfeeding one of the newborn babies. Roxanne insists that Miss Martha chase Daisy out of the house, but Miss Martha refuses and quits her job on the spot. Daisy then confronts the entire family hanging herself from the same chandelier she once clung to, then lighting her body on fire as the family watches in horror.

The final scene depicts the family outdoors in the snow celebrating Nami’s birthday, being weird and crazy. While Roxanne sings “Happy Birthday”, William hands a glass of champagne to Nami. Both appear insane as Nami looks on.

To be helmed by Roman Perez Jr. (“Adan” (2019), “Sol Searching” (2018) and “#Ewankosau Saranghaeyo” (2015), the camera will start rolling for the local version of “The Housemaid” this October 25. Direk Perez also considers this movie as his biggest project ever. He also mentioned during the Storycon that their adaptation will have a Filipino flavor and it’s going to be a sexy drama compared to the original version which is an erotic thriller that even its trailer was red-banded by YouTube.
