‘Star Stealer’ Premieres Sept 30 on Viu

The winning concept from Viu Pitching Forum 2019, Star Stealer features a unique blend of young emerging talent and A-list celebrities.

Viu, a leading pan-regional OTT video service from PCCW media group, today announced the release of Viu Original comedy series Star Stealer, the winning entry of Viu Pitching Forum 2019. The series will be released on September 30, 2020 in all 16 markets where Viu operates.

The original concept behind Star Stealer was created by two talented up-and-coming Indonesian filmmakers, Aaron Timothy Soeharto and Audry Dayes Wangko, who beat more than 250 entries at the Viu Pitching Forum and won the opportunity to further develop their story and bring it to life as a 10-episode Viu Original series.

In its second year, Viu Pitching Forum is an annual industry-building initiative dedicated to promoting emerging talent in Indonesia and providing a global platform to showcase their inspiring work.

Star Stealer was applauded by judges of Viu Pitching Forum for its unique storyline and youthful spirit. The story follows the daughter of a recently bankrupted mall owner who finds herself waitressing at a bubble tea joint where she brings together an unlikely assortment of talented retail workers to form an underground organization. Their mission is to make money by conducting a series of daring heists to steal items from celebrities and sell them to the highest bidder.

Star Stealer is headlined by a young, all-Indonesian ensemble cast featuring Syafira Haddad, Roy Sungkono, Clairine Clay, Shenina Cinnamon, Claudy Putri and parkour athlete Rekki Illahi, supported by veteran actors Totos Rasiti, Dayu Wijanto and Willem Bevers. Star Stealer’s A-list celebrities include Chicco Jerikho, Rio Dewanto, Jessica Mila, Rafael Tan, Lucinta Luna, Limbad and many more. The series is directed by award-winning filmmaker Andibachtiar Yusuf, best known for his work on Pariban: Idola Dari Tanah Jawa and the critically acclaimed Love for Sale franchise.

Ms. Sahana Kamath, Head of Original Production for Viu Indonesia and Malaysia, said, “Star Stealer is a testament to Viu’s commitment to helping build the industry for premium production through Viu Pitching Forum and to champion the region’s best and brightest up-and-coming talent. With its playful jibe at the current celebrity culture craze and its thrilling yet heart-warming narrative, we are certain our audience will enjoy this fun, inventive heist comedy – truly the first of its kind in Indonesia.”

Viu-ers can watch Star Stealer starting September 30 on the Viu app which can be downloaded for free on App Store, Google Play and select Smart TVs, as well as on the web at www.viu.com.
