‘100 Tula Para Kay Stella’ Poised to Become the Top Grosser in ‘Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino’

On the second day of “Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino,” a week-long festival of 12 Filipino films, the romantic movie “100 Tula Para Kay Stella” took early lead at the box office together with “Ang Manananggal Sa Unit 23B” and “Awol” according to reports. But because of its mainstream nature and heavy promotions, the Viva Films entry is being predicted to become the festival’s top grosser when the inaugural event closes on August 22.

“100 Tula Para Kay Stella” was written and helmed by Jason Paul Laxamana, the director of hit rom-coms “Love is Blind” and “The Third Party.” JC Santos (“Till I Met You”) teams up with Bela Padilla (“Camp Sawi”) in the movie which tells the story of a college nerd named Fidel, who despite his speech impediment, wrote a hundred poems to win the heart of his crush named Stella, a frustrated rockstar.

The director calls this romance a ‘passion project,’ “It was based on my own heartbreak,” recalls Laxamana. He also cites the gorgeous shots in the movie as another factor why everyone who’s been in love and heartbroken should watch this film. The Mount Arayat as the backdrop in one of the memorable scenes in the movie boosts the hopeless romantic mood of its story, engaging the audience even more as it heads toward an unexpected ending.

“100 Tula Para Kay Stella” is now showing in cinemas nationwide. Students in Metro Manila can watch this film for only P150 while students outside Metro Manila can buy the ticket for only P100 by showing their university ID.
