Miss Philippines Nicole Cordoves and Miss USA Michelle Leon received boos from the audience after answering the final question which has something to do with US politics.
The five finalists at the Miss Grand International 2016 on Wednesday in Las Vegas were asked with a political question: “If you have to choose one of these two people to help you stop the war and violence, who would you choose between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton and why?”
Miss USA’s answer: “Believe it or not, I will choose Donald Trump. Why? Because the same way that we are all here to change the mind of people, to share our passion to stop the war and violence is the same way I will share my passion with him.”
Miss Philippines’ answer: “You have to promise me that you won’t react after my first sentence. I will choose Donald Trump to stop the war and violence with me because if we choose him to switch to our side there won’t be war and violence any more. What if we actually use his voice to do good? Let Donald Trump switch to our side to stop the war and violence.”
Despite getting booed for sharing her personal opinion, Cordoves was named first runner-up to Miss Indonesia Ariska Putri Pertiw.
Thailand was the 2nd runner up, Puerto Rico was the 3rd runner up, and USA was the 4th runner-up.
