Director Wenn Deramas Enjoys Best of Borth Worlds in Showbiz

Blockbuster director Wenn Deramas is among the few directors in the country today directs comedy for movies and drama for television at the same time.

During a recent interview on the location of his primetime series “Kahit Puso’y Masugatan,” Direk Wenn shared how he juggles histelevision and film projects.

“I already got used to it. I always have a soap opera whenever I do a movie. I am used to working for TV every M-W-F and for movie every T-Th-S,” he said.

When asked why he showcases his skills in directing top-caliber drama only on television, Direk Wenn said, “I do drama only on TV because Mam Charo and Boss Vic told me that I am already a brand in comedy films. People would pay to see my movies. They advised me to keep it that way and venture into TV drama.”

He also explained that he is comfortable doing both genres since his strength, according to one of his mentors, is churning out powerful and unforgettable lines, a remarkable skill he can apply in writing both comedy and drama. Direk Wenn, who will celebrate his 22nd year as a Kapamilya this December, said he also prefers to do both genres instead of working on two different projects with the same genre at the same time.

“I think I’ll go crazy if I do both comedies or both dramas at the same time. In fact, dramas such as KPM serve as a breather for me especially when I am working on a comedy film. That is why they won’t hear me complain even if we tape almost everyday.”

While doing his upcoming movie under Star Cinema and Viva Films titled “This Guy is in Love with U Mare,” Direk Wenn is also working on his Primetime Bida soap “Kahit Puso’y Masugatan” topbilled by Iza Calzado, Andi Eigenmann, Jake Cuenca, and Gabby Concepcion. The show continues to heat up every weeknights thus, members of the entertainment press asked if direk Wenn intends to extend the program.

“The show was conceptualized to air for 20 weeks only so I think it would be better to keep it at 20 weeks. Even the other soaps I did in the past like “Mula sa Puso,” “Marina,” and “Kampanerang Kuba” weren’t extended. I prefer it that way so we can start working on a new project the audience can look forward to. Today’s viewers are very intelligent and they would know that you are only stretching the storyline or the plot to extend a program’s run,” he said.

There is definitely more to watch out for in “Kahit Puso’y Masugatan” as big revelations and intense scenes are set to unfold in the coming weeks. One of which is the death of Antonio (Lito Pimentel) where Direk Wenn went all praises for Jaclyn Jose for her solid and Cannes-winning performance on the scene where she learned about his death.
