House Honors Atty. Mario Bautista for Leading the Corona Prosecution Team

The House of Representatives recently released a resolution commending Atty. Mario ‘Ayo’ Bautista and the rest of the House prosecution team for their “unprecedented achievement” in the 44-day impeachment trial that ousted Chief Justice Renato Corona.

In the three-page House Resolution No. 2462, the lower chamber honored Bautista and the other private prosecutors for having been “instrumental in bolstering the case for the prosecution team.”

The resolution reads: “Atty. Bautista spearheaded the House Prosecution Team’s legal strategy and was the first to volunteer his services to assist the House of Representatives Prosecution Panel during the impeachment proceedings. The aforesaid private prosecutors became integral in the appreciation and handling of the complex legal and factual issues involved in the case, and their skill, commitment, dedication, and expertise were vital in determining the overall strategy of the prosecution team.”

Bautista took a leave from his functions and duties as general counsel of ABS-CBN Corporation last January 2012, since he accepted the role of chief private prosecutor in the Corona impeachment trial.

On May 29, 2012, the Senate impeachment court voted to oust Corona from the Supreme Court, with 20 senator-judges finding him guilty of Article 2 of the impeachment complaint filed against him pertaining to his failure to disclose to the public his statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALN).
