Jessica Sanchez to Sing US National Anthem in Pacquiao-Bradley Bout

The American Idol runner-up that the Filipinos supported all the way will be singing the US National Anthem instead of "Lupang Hinirang" in the Pacquiao-Bradley bout this Sunday.

Jessica Sanchez is indeed singing a national anthem in Manny Pacquiao‘s upcoming bout but it’s not for the Philippines but for the US. She’ll be singing the “Star Spangled Banner” for Timothy Bradley‘s camp, Pacquiao’s opponent this Saturday, June 9, 2012 (Sunday morning in Manila) as confirmed by Top Rank Entertainment.

For Pacquiao and the whole Philippines’ camp, Fil-Am singer Kirby Asunto of New Jersey is singing the “Lupang Hinirang.”

It’s interesting to note that while Jessica Sanchez is still competing in American Idol last month, Pacquiao expressed his desire to get the service of the 16-year-old Fil-Mexican to sing the Philippine National Anthem in his fight against Bradley. Apparently, Jessica said yes to the opponent’s side.

What do you think?

  1. I’m a Filipino but i don’t know why other filipino’s try to support her. she’s not really a filipino, and i don’t think i like to see jessica singing the national anthem of the Philippines because she doesn’t even know how to speak the filipino language. A true filipino knows the whole song, the language, the pledge, and the whole culture of the Philippines. i would rather call other full-blood filipino singers to sing the Anthem perfectly. no offense to jessica, of course. we can try to support her not just bec. of her race but bec. she has talent.

  2. The slant in this article is malicious.  Jessica Sanchez does not deserve such back-handed slight.

She is an American-Mexican so don’t expect her to be pinoy she grew up there and America is her home so let her be.

  4. Oh, come on, give her a break! I have watched her interviews on tv and she did acknowledge the support of her Filipino fans as well as those other nationalities in all the other parts of the world. We love her because no one can deny the fact that she is of Filipino descent and that may be is the primary reason, secondary is that she really is awesomely talented and a versatile singer at a very young age of sixteen! Whatever she has now she does not owe it all to us because it is the fruit of her hard work ever since she was a little girl and first and foremost, she entirely owes it to our DEAR LORD for bestowing upon her with such an amazing talent! Again, this is just my own point of view! Thanks & GOD BLESS!

  5. Reality bites. Filipinos are always looking and rooting for someone outside the country who can make us all proud. But of course, part of our admiration to Jessica is because of her talent. But you have to admit that the reason why we supported her all the way is because she has Filipino blood and not entirely because of her talent.

  7. Jessica should tweet or mention Philippines. This would mean a lot to her Filipino fans.

  8. Get a life Jake. She has never even stepped foot in your country as I have never stepped foot in Ireland or Italy. She is an American!

  9. Because she is born and raised in America and like her father and all Americans pledge their allegiance to The United States of America

  10. And I dont speak Italian and have never been there and I do NOT pledge allegiance to Italy. I am not a citizen

  11. That would have been totally inappropriate if she did

  12. She is American 100%. She has never even ever stepped  foot in Phil in her life.

  13. Glee Fanatic… THANK YOU! She is American. Should african american artists now be shamed for singing National Anthem?

  14. JESSICA is 100% AMERICAN. She has never been to Phillipines ever. I can not believe you supported her for her ethnic background and NOT for her talent! Disgusting and racist. her citizenship is 100% American. Her father fights for US Navy. We all have ethnic backgrounds. Her pledge of allegiance is to USA and no where else.

  15. I don’t know why people are making a big deal out of this. Yes she has Filipino blood, but she is an American citizen, born and raised in the US. Naturally, her loyalty is with the US. Plus, I may be wrong but can she sing in the native language? Just my opinion

She is american to start with.

  17. Reality check: Filipinos did not love Jessica because of her talent but BECAUSE she has Filipino blood. U don’t need to prove that. She’s basically Mexican-American. When she was asked if she’s aware of the tremendous support given to her by Filipino people, she just said no like she doesn’t care at all.

  18. Pacquiao asked her first to sing the Philippine National Anthem

  19. Jessica is a singer, she’s only singing the American national anthem and what’s wrong with that. Kirby  was already scheduled to sing and Manny chose her even before the American Idol started. Stop bashing Jessica, she’s only following what she is told to do and it doesn’t mean she’s on Bradley’s side. Please stop this nonsense….just enjoy the fight and hope that Manny will win again. Thanks.

  20. JESSICA DON’T KNOW HOW TO SPEAK FILIPINO!!

  21. THE MOST STUPID WRITE-UP EVER!

  22. And what’s wrong with that? She is an American citizen after all. “Mahal kita” is the only phrase she knows in Filipino and you expect her to sing the Philippine National Anthem? I’m so disappointed with all the Filipinos who put this against Jessica. Shame on you! This just proves that you only love Jessica because she has Filipino blood and not because of her talent.

  23. hindi sya magaling magtagalog po. kaya d nya kaya kantahin ang lupang hinirang

  24. let’s just be open-minded……

  25. Let’s not be prejudiced! There must be a reason for this which may be beyond her control or may be a career move on her part or simply just following her manager or handler for that matter. Nonetheless, I am still proud of her for her such amazing talent and awesome versatility and admitting publicly that she is also of Filipino descent. Just my opinion!

    yeyeyeyeye

  28. well after all she is an American, I may have some sort of doubt and even a kind of disappointment but I do understand her other side of it. Let this be a lesson for those kababayans who have been annoyingly and arguably insisting of proud-to-be-Filipino lineage for Jessica online. Peace guys, just my opinion.

  29. why why why jessica

  30. Bad Bad Bad Jessica
