Miss Universe 2011 will have 16 semi-finalists this year instead of 15. This is because the winner of the global fan vote will have the extra slot while the preliminary judges will choose the Top 15 just like before.

However, contrary to previously announced, the 16 semi-finalists will compete in swimsuits, the next cut would be 10 who will compete in evening gown, and the last cut would be 5 who will compete in the question and answer portion. It was supposed to be 16-8-4 but this format is being used by the Miss Earth pageant. Perhaps that’s the reason why the Miss Universe Organization will stick to its previous format.
