Agusan del Sur Wildlife Park in the Works

Agusan del Sur is now gearing up for a wildlife park that will feature the soon-to-be world's largest crocodiles.

giant crocodile

After the capture of the world-famous giant crocodile last week, Bunawan Mayor Cox Elorde has greenlighted the construction of a wildlife park that will feature the province’s unique species.

Elorde emphasized that Lolong, the name given to the giant crocodile now in captivity, is not the only attraction in his town’s upcoming park because the Agusan marsh is home to many diverse species such as the Bunawan snails which are as large as a man’s fist.

The mayor is now calling for donations because government funds are not enough to sustain the upkeep of the animal’s facilities. The giant crocodile alone needs a larger enclosure not to mention a daily supply of live chickens as food.

“Sana matulungan ninyo kami na mabigyan ng magandang tahanan si Lolong at saka maprotektahan din ‘yung kasama ni Lolong sa marshland namin,” Elorde told GMA-7’s 24 Oras.

Elorde also added that they are now hunting for larger crocodiles that might have gone further into the marsh after Lolong’s capture last week.
