Fil-Am Pitcher Behind SF Giants’ World Series Win

Filipino-American Tim Lincecum pitched the San Francisco Giants to win their first World Series title since 1954, beating Texas Rangers 3-1 in game 5 of the Major League Baseball (MLB) best-of-seven finals.

It was the 6th all-time World Series crown for the Giants but their first in 56 years and the first since they moved to California from New York in 1958.

Lincecum is the first ever pitcher of Filipino heritage to win in America’s biggest baseball title. He won two games in the World Series, Games 1 and 5.

In the title clinching Game 5 victory, the 26 year-old struck out 10 Texas batters and just allowed 3 hits and one run over eight innings. A major feat to take the trophy home to San Francisco for the first time in more than half a century.

In a post-victory interview with ESPN, Lincecum said all his teammates contributed to the victory.

“Like I said, we made the additions when we needed to. All those guys stepped up, like I said, at the right time and did their part to get us here. Somebody did something big to get us here,” the 26-year-old right-handed pitcher told ESPN.

“Everybody coming up big when they need to be a hero when they need to. We probably had the right guys at the right time,” Lincecum added.
