Even Susan Roces movie To Susan With Love in 1968 was a flop, considering she had four leading men, all popular actors. I went to see the movie at State theatre and I was surprised, the theatre was almost empty, it was the afternoon screening I wacthed, probably only 30 people or less in the orchestra section.
Batong Buhay pala which starred Amalia with Zaldy Zchornack was also a big hit although it was not a top grosser in the Manila Film Festival.
The 1968 case of 3 Amalia Fuentes movies in the Manila Film Festival is not true. She only had one entry Sa Manlulupig Di Ka Pasisiil but that was only a guest entry and already enjoyed a good run prior to the filmfest. It was shown only in a small theater.
Ang Pulubi was not a Manila Film Fest entry. So Charito Solis did not outgross Amalia Fuentes.
All of the filmfest entries of Amalia Fuentes were monster hits. The films may not be the top grosser but were all in the top five box office hits of the festivals. She did not have a flop in any film festival.
Following were here filmfest entries: Pwede Ako Pwede ka pa Ba?; Durugin ang Mga Dyablo sa Punta Fuego; Adriana; Imelda Ang Uliran; Pagibig Mo Buhay Ko; Babae Ikaw ang Dahilan; and Divinia Bastarda and Urduja for Quezon City Film Festival.
Amalia during her prime was the female box office champion of the Manila Film Festival, Metro Manila Film Festival and Quezon City Festival.
paano nyo ipapaliwanag ito? in 1968
Amalia Fuentes has 3 movie entries sa
Manila Film Festival( Sa Manlulupig Di
over a million fans na nanuood nang
film parade, pero hindi pumatok sa
takilya ang 3 movies niya. Why? mahirap
isipin. In 1969, Amalia was the most
applauded star during the Manila Film
takilya.How can you explain it?
Not because flop ang movie it means
it is the end! even movie queen rivals
Amalia Fuentes and Susan Roces ay may
mga movies sila na hindi kumita sa
takilya maski kasikatan nila nuon back
in 1960’s, sina Nora Aunor at Vilma Santos na pinakasikat na actresses sa
70’s ay me mga time na tinalo sa takilya
ang mga movies nila nang mga artistang
hindi kasing sikat nila.
example: nuong first Manila Film Festival in 1966 ang pelikula nina
Amalia Fuentes at Romeo Vasquez( Ikaw
superstar si Amalia at that time an yet
ay blockbuster hits at yung iba ay hindi masyadong kumita and yet she was the number one actress sa popularity.
Even Sarah Geronimo movie Hating Kapatid
only grossed 81 million pesos(hindi
umabot nang 100 million), Richard Gutierrez In Your Eyes-62 million pesos
lang-hindi rin kumita masyado ang Sa
Yo Lamang, even Mamarazzi was a flop-
I believe the moviegoing public is
looking for ‘ true superstars’ who will
drive them crazy with excitements just
like back in the 60’s (Susan Roces and
Amalia Fuentes glamorous rivalry) and
in the 70’s (the Nora Aunor and Vilma
Santos heated rivalry).
Let’s face it, walang excitement sa
show biz ngayon, maski si Sarah Geronimo
na considered, ‘the most popular young
star’ ay hindi pa rin kinikilig ang
publiko.
si Nora or Vilma.
Sarah Geronimo, Marian Rivera, Bea
Alonzo etc.ni hindi pinagaawayan nang
mga fans.
Sa Yo Lamang Movie grossed only 43 million pesos in 3 weeks. Inspite of
its power casts, the movie was not a
huge box-office success. It shows that
the Philippine Showbiz needs powerful
‘superstars’ that will attract more
moviegoers-today’s supposed to be top
stars-Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes,
Bea Alonzo and even Sarah Geronimo’s
Hating Kapatid failed to reach 100
million pesos, they lack the box-office charisma of the past superstars Nora
Aunor and Vilma Santos. There’s not
much excitement in showbiz compared to
the ‘craziness and hysterical adulation’
over Nora and Vilma in the 70’s.
ill be ther at sa yo lamng flop ever!
