Songwriter Vehnee Saturno and up and coming talent Lourden Panganiban both bagged the top awards at the 2010 Shanghai International Song Festival in China.

Lourden won the Grand Prize in the Best Interpreter category, besting 31 singers from 17 other countries. She sang “Within,” Vehnee Saturno’s composition, which was named “Best Song.” Lourden won $5000 while Saturno took home $2,000 for his composition.

Vehnee revealed that Lourden was only his second choice to interpret his song “Within.” However, the first artist who was supposed to interpret the song backed out at the last minute and Lourden filled up the slot.

Each of the 31 contestants were asked to sing three set of songs in groups of three where the judges picked the 15 semi-finalists. From the 15, they picked 10 who advanced to the finals.
