‘Transformers’ and ‘Ice Age 3’ Tied at No. 1 with $42.5 Box-office Haul

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs debuted worldwide last weekend and it shared the no. 1 spot with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Transformers is on its 2nd week run and it’s box-office gross for the fourth of July weekend was still an impressive $42.5 million. The robots’ opening weekend haul was an amazing $109 million in North America, the highest opening gross of the year so far.

With a $293.5 million domestic total after just 12 days, “Transformers” shot past Disney and Pixar Animation’s “Up” to become the year’s highest-grossing movie. “Revenge of the Fallen” reunites human stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox with shape-shifting robots in a war against evil machines. It’s also touted as the highest-grossing critically flop film.

The third installment of the animated feature Ice Age has taken $65.5 million since it opened last Wednesday.

Universal’s crime saga “Public Enemies,” starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, debuted a solid No. 3 with $26.2 million.
