MMFF 2014 – ‘Bonifacio’ and ‘English Only Please’ Dominate the Awards
It looks like there’s no controversy happening from this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival as all the winners are deemed deserving of their trophies. Unlike in previous years where box office performance of the films has a factor in winning the awards, this year, the underdogs emerged victorious.
Historical drama “Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo” was named Best Picture followed by the only romantic-comedy entry this year–“English Only Please”–as 2nd Best Film. “Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles” was deserving too, of its 3rd Best Film award by virtue of the rave reviews it received from critics.
I also agree that the Best Actor plum went to Derek Ramsay and the Best Actress trophy went to Jennylyn Mercado.
