ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra Releases Debut Album ‘Decades of OPM’

The ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra has released its debut album under Star Records titled "Decades of OPM," which pays tribute to some of the greatest original Pilipino music (OPM) masterpieces of the '70s, '80s '90s and early 2000s.

True to its aim of bringing orchestra music closer to the hearts of more Filipino people, the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra will not only showcase its exquisite symphony in the album but also its exciting collaboration with some of the country’s best singers, including Gary Valenciano, Martin Nievera, Vina Morales, Angeline Quinto, Yeng Constantino and Piolo Pascual, and phenomenal young recording artists like Daniel Padilla, Enrique Gil, and Abra.

In its debut album “Decades of OPM,” the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra gives a fresh take on 10 well-loved, timeless OPM classics, including videoke favorites “Kapalaran” with Gary, “Hawak Kamay” with Yeng, “Himig Handog Suite” (Medley of Hanggang/Kung Ako Na Lang Sana/Ano’ng Nangyari Sa Ating Dalawa/Hindi Na Bale) with Angeline, “Rey Valera Suite” (Medley of Pangako/Tayong Dalawa/Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo), “Mula Sa Puso (orchestra only), “Tubig at Langis (orchestra only), and “Be My Lady” with award winning composer-arranger Louie Ocampo.

Aside from ballads, the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra also plays Filipino dance hit songs in the album that will surely appeal to the young generation, with Daniel singing the “OPM Dance Suite” (Medley of Awitin Mo Isasayaw Ko/Katawan/Rock Baby/Tayo’y Magsayaqan), and Enrique and Abra doing their version of “Totoy Bibo.” The band also plays “Pinoy Ako,” the theme song of ABS-CBN’s hit reality show “Pinoy Big Brother.”

Also featured in the album are bonus tracks such as “Please Be Careful With My Heart” (orchestra only), “Maging Sino Ka Man” with Martin, “After All” with Martin and Vina, and “Kung Kailangan Mo Ako” with Piolo.

Decades of OPM

“Decades of OPM” CDs are now available in record bars nationwide for only P350. The digital format of the tracks can be downloaded via Starmusic.ph, Amazon.com, Mymusicstore.com.ph and iTunes.

Composed of some 42 musicians under the baton of Maestro Gerard Salonga, the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra is established through the collaborative effort of ABS-CBN and First Philippine Holdings Corp.
