A few days later, winter comes to the Philippines with the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics to be held in Sochi, Russia that opens on February 8 at 12mn (Manila time). The Winter Olympics will have 98 medal events in 7 sports and it will be the first time that it will be held in Russia. The much-awaited event will also have figure skater Michael Martinez as the first homegrown Filipino to compete in the Games. The 17-year old figure skater will be representing the Philippines, which has been absent from The Winter Olympics for the past 22 years.

The Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympics will also be aired from August 16 to 28 from Nanjing, China. There are 222 medal events in 28 sports, including 3-on-3 basketball, taekwondo, swimming, tennis, boxing, athletics, beach volleyball and football.
Capping off the major sports event for the year is the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea this September.
