Binibining Pilipinas International Bea Rose Santiago is Miss International 2013, a grand ending to a string of beauty pageant wins including that of Megan Young as Miss World and Mutya Datul as Miss Supranational. She is the fifth Filipina to win the Miss International title after Precious Lara Quigaman won in 2005.
In a humble ceremony at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Hall in Tokyo, Japan, Bea bested 66 other delegates in the 53rd edition of one of the world’s oldest and grandest beauty contests. Bea drew applause after answering the final question: “What will you do if you win Miss International?”
“The whole world saw how my country suffered. One by one, other countries helped. You have opened my heart and eyes on what we can do to help each other. I will work to sustain the spirit of sympathy and the spirit of hope. As long as we work together, there is hope,” Bea articulated.
The 23 year-old Filipina bet from Manila emerged as amongst the pageant favorites only a week before the coronation night. Missossology ranked her in the top 10. During the finals night, Bea gave the best speech, Miss International’s equivalent of the final question and answer, to seal the victory. This is the same formula that Precious Lara Quigaman did in 2005: being the most articulate.
