‘Failon Ngayon’ Tackles Rising Crime Incidents in the Country

How can citizens entrust their safety and security to the police when police officers themselves are victimized and killed by notorious criminals?

Ted Failon will find out the answers this Saturday (Sep 15) in “Failon Ngayon” as he probes on the current crime situation in the country and the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) measures to curb and prevent crimes.

From January to December 2011, the Manila Police District recorded a total of 12,800 cases of crime in Manila alone, while a total of 16,650 cases nationwide had been documented from July 2011 to June this year.

Despite these alarming figures, the PNP has managed to claim publicly that the crime rate in the Philippines hasn’t surged. How can this be?

Under the leadership of former National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Alan Purisima, a “crime wave” was said to have burst in Metro Manila. Is this the reason he was sacked as NCRPO Chief? If so, why is he reported to have been promoted as the PNP’s Chief of Directorial Staff?

Ted will also look into the appointment of Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina as the new NCRPO Chief as well as the qualifications for selecting NCRPO’s top officials.
