Julius Babao Examines Flood-Resistant Housing in ‘Krusada’

Broadcast journalist Julius Babao will examine the feasibility of conventionalizing stilt houses in the Philippines to prevent the risks of flooding this Thursday (August 30) in “Krusada.”

Experts have noted that in order to avoid severe flooding disasters, the architectural structure of houses in the country must be adjusted or changed to suit the conditions in the typhoon-prone Philippines.

Julius will deliberate the building costs, as well as the practicality of the recommended house design reminiscent of the quintessential ‘bahay kubo’ or nipa hut, which is raised up and built on stilts.

The house design is also proposed not only in the construction of private homes but also in relocation sites and danger zones in the metro where informal settlers are constantly exposed to flooding.

Endorsing the strategy is rising young architect Jason Buensalido, whose eco-friendly house plan won in UP College of Architecture’s competition called “Ang Pinakamagandang Bahay sa Balat ng Lupa” with the idea of building an entire house on stilts to make it flood and typhoon-resistant.

Watch Julius’ report in “Krusada” this Thursday (August 30) after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN or watch it earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable Channel 26), 9:15 p.m. For updates on the program, follow @krusadaTV on Twitter or like www.facebook.com/Krusada.
