Marian Tan Angers Netizens for Cruel Tweets About Flood Victims

Marian Tan, an alleged model, became the subject of netizens' outrage after tweeting insensitive remarks about the country's flood condition on Tuesday, August 7.

The name “Marian Tan” became a trending topic on Twitter after she posted the following remarks via the account @shobemarian:

“Thank God I’m not in the Philippines. Haha. Poor country.”

“I pity all those people who are living in the Philippines lol.”

Right after the post, tweets of outrage against Marian Tan poured like the torrential rains of the southwest monsoon:

@TheKenNarvato: “Throw Marian Tan into the Marikina River and let her suffer.”

@AkosiTASYO: “Hey Marian Tan i just met you and this is crazy! Bakit Tan apelyido mo? For TANgina maybe?”

@ImMarvinSoriano: Lord, We will gladly offer Marian Tan exchange for Dolphy. :))

However as the brouhaha continues, a few people discovered that Marian Tan with the Twitter handle @shobemarian is a poser.

The real Marian Tan is indeed a model but her Twitter handle is @iamprettyshobs and NOT @shobemarian.

She added the word “Official” to her user name and appealed to the public that the the poser, @shobemarian, who earlier posted cruel tweets about the country is just using her name.

She tweeted:

@iamprettyshobs – “GUYS THIS IS THE REAL MARIAN TAN ! Pls Dont Listen to my POSER ! This is my OFFICIAL TWITTER Account and there’s no OTHER ! PLS SPREAD”

Notice the Twitter skin of the real Marian Tan’s account:

While the poser’s account has the blurb “Half-angel / Half-devil.”

This incident is a good example of cyber bullying, where a person’s reputation can be destroyed by baseless allegations by someone who hides his/her real identity via a fake social media account.
