Pinay Cheesa Laureta Wins 1st Battle Round on ‘The Voice’

Honolulu native Cheesa Laureta bested her rival Angie Johnson during the first battle rounds on NBC's rising reality singing competition program "The Voice."

It was a tough call for Cee Lo because the two ladies performed very well and nailed the song. In the end, Cee Lo picked Cheesa to move on to the next round.

Cheesa Laureta is actually 100% pinay. Her father Joseph Laureta, is of Ilocano, Tagalog, and Pangasinan heritage, while her mother, Martiniana Laureta, is from Cebu. She and her whole family is living in Hawaii.

Meanwhile, Cheesa Laureta performed Beyonce‘s power ballad “If I Were a Boy” during the audition rounds on “The Voice.” Before her actual audition, Cheesa mentioned that she’s rooting for Cee Lo Green to be her mentor in the reality show. 5 seconds before the end of her performance, Cee Lo, pressed the button for her, the only mentor to do so!
