Ces Drilon Revives ‘Pipol’
ANC is bringing back “Pipol,” which aired on ABS-CBN from 1999 until 2006 and made its mark on Philippine television’s current affairs landscape by looking into the private lives of newsmakers, from glitzy celebrities to elusive politicians and illustrious athletes.
Anchored by seasoned and award-winning journalist Ces Oreña-Drilon, “Pipol” on ANC promises 30 minutes of exhaustive and intimate examination of powerful and ordinary people who are making a difference in their respective fields and communities. It will premiere on Monday (October 10) at 9:30 pm.
“It always helps when you get to know that person beyond the sound bytes and the news item. You’ll know how he grew up, what makes that person tick, as well as his principles. Part of what we want to do is inspire people so when they finish watching the show, they can learn from how people led their lives,” she said.
Distinguished broadcast journalist Pinky Webb is also set to join the morning news and talk program “Mornings@ANC,” which reports on local and international news, technology, sports, health, trends, and entertainment – every piece of information Filipinos need to jumpstart their day.
With her experience as a news anchor and radio commentator, Webb wants to add more interviews and meticulous discussions on current events to the jam-packed two-hour program, with co-anchors Ron Cruz, Ginger Conejero, and Paolo Abrera.
“We want to make sure, as ANC has always been the leader of making news 24/7, that in ‘Mornings@ANC,’ we will be able to deliver the most recent stories the viewers want to know, hear, and find out… so they can trust us to be the first ones to deliver the news to them,” Webb expressed.
Meanwhile, primetime newscast “Primetime on ANC” is set to hit cable TV screens weeknights at 8 pm starting October 10 (Monday), with veteran news anchor Tony Velasquez and former ABS-CBN North America Bureau correspondent Karmina Constantino as anchors.
The hour-long show aims to run through the day’s biggest events, as well as up-to-date news on technology and social media.
Having more than 20 years of newsgathering experience, Velasquez hosts ANC’s technology show “Future Perfect,” co-anchors ANC’s “Top Story,” and has delivered advocacy reports for ABS-CBN’s “Krusada.”
Constantino, on the other hand, served as anchor for The Filipino Channel’s “Balitang America” and the weekly magazine talk program “Adobo Nation.”
“We’ll bring back good old storytelling. It’s going to be light in delivery but heavy in content,” Constantino said.
Velasquez also stressed that news on primetime means capturing the most important stories of the day and having the viewers understand and savor every piece of information presented to them.
Riding on ANC’s October treat is also its longest running newscast “Dateline Philippines.”
Anchor and journalist Gigi Grande joins TJ Manotoc in presenting news stories from all over the country, brought together by ABS-CBN’s solid and most extensive newsgathering group nationwide.
“I’m looking forward to delivering the freshest news at noon. An ABS-CBN reporter and news editor for many years, I know news happens very early in the day and we don’t have to wait until evening to deliver these updates. I’m also excited to work with TJ Manotoc whose energy and enthusiasm have become his trademark,” she said.
TJ Manotoc, a versatile broadcast journalist on wide-ranging topics such as sports, current events, technology, and social media, said that the noontime newscast has allowed him to hone his newsgathering skills with the daily interviews with newsmakers.
“We’ve had breaking news on ‘Dateline Philippines’ so many times and I am proud to be able to give our viewers all those updates. As a reporter and social media enthusiast, I also want to engage our viewers more and get to know what they think about pressing issues,” he added.
Also watch out for Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin, Jr.’s return to editorial journalism via “Teditorial,” a two-minute commentary segment on select ANC news programs featuring his perspective on the latest news stories.
