Data from the Department of Health showed that, from January to September this year, dengue has already downed 63,741. Almost 400 of these cases didn’t survive. A seasonal disease only known to come up during rainy seasons has now become a disease that knows no season. A recent US study reveals that aedis aegypti or the dengue-carrying mosquito has adapted perfectly to live amidst humans that it has reduced the humming sounds of its wings to the point that man can barely hear it. It can already fly faster than other mosquito specie unless gorged with blood.

This Sunday (October 2), Cheryl Cosim travels from north to south of Luzon to document the rapid contagion of dengue from the suburbs to the metropolis in DOKYU5’s Dengue, to be aired over TV5 and AKSYON TV.

The seasoned broadcast journalist will introduce PJ Quereza, a young boy she met at the hospital’s ICU (intensive care unit), who was on the brink of death but ended up fighting back for his life. The documentary will also investigate how a disease like dengue that exploded during the World War II has managed to survive in the Philippines and even adapted to the changing times.
