PAGASA Forecast for Typhoon Kabayan (August 2, 2011)

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Administration (PAGASA) has released a weather bulletin about Typhoon Kabayan (Bagyong Kabayan) as of 11:00am Tuesday. The weather bureau said Kabayan has “maintained its strength and continues to move North Northwest.”

Typhoon Kabayan was located based on satellite and surface data at 1,140 km East Northeast of Basco, Batanes at 10:00 a.m., this morning. It is packing maximum sustained winds of 165 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 200 kph. It is forecast to move in a North Northwest direction at a rate of 11 kph.

Although the typhoon is too far to directly affect any part of the country, PAGASA noted that it will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon over Luzon, hence the heavy rains we are experiencing, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

PAGASA added that heavy rains and thunderstorms will be experienced Tuesday afternoon over NCR and some parts of Zambales, Bulacan and Bataan.
