U.S. Open of Surfing 2011 Kicks Off

U.S. Open of Surfing

The U.S. Open of Surfing is a week-long surfing competition held annually during the summer in Huntington Beach, California. Generally held on the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier, the U.S. Open is part of the qualification process for the ASP World Tour and is an ASP Prime event.

As part of the event, notable people in the world of surfing are added to the Surfing Walk of Fame and to the Surfers’ Hall of Fame, both directly across from the pier.

This year’s event kicked off with young surfers starting the competition in the waves, and crowds showing for an early glimpse of the festival area.

In the water, junior men and women competed in 3-foot, wind-chopped surf. On the sand, the booths were setting up, with some like PacSun giving away swag to people playing games at their booth.

The event will also features the latest surf goods, skate bowls, free concerts with big bands and a fashion show put on by high school students from around the nation.
