World’s Tallest Buildings (Completed) as of December 2007

While i still have the "Petronas Towers experience" in me, let's take a look on the current list of the World's Top 100 Tallest Buildings. Please take note that this list includes only buildings with at least 40 stories, so towers and structures are not included. Also, twin towers are considered as two separate buildings and not just one so they will occupy two places in the rankings. Lastly, this list is for "completed" buildings only as of December 2007 so Dubai's Burj is not yet included on this list. To perk your interest in checking out the whole ranking, the Philippines has one entry in the Top 100. Find out after the jump...

On the Photo: Malaysia’s Petronas Towers (left), Taiwan’s Taipei 101 (second from left), USA’s Sears Tower (second from right) and Philippines’ PBCom Tower (rightmost).

This data was gathered and/or supplied by members and representatives of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat who represent world leaders in the field of the built environment, including research, industry, and education.

So our tallest building which is the PBCom tower (righmost in the photo above) ranks no. 93 in the world. In the “Fully Habitable” version of this list, PBCom actually ranks no. 85th in the world.

Come 2010, the tallest building in the Philippines would be the Lopez Center Tower (above photo) in Rockwell Center Makati City. When it’s completed, it would be 1,050 ft tall and it’s near to the design of Freedom Tower in New York City.

Come 2012, the tallest building in the Philippines would by the “Sky City” located at the corner of Ortigas and Epifanio de los Santos Avenues in Mandaluyong with a planned 1,099 feet tall. The original plan for the Sky City was to challenge Malaysia’s Petronas towers with 88 stories but budget issues revised the plan to only 77 stories which is good for 20th to 30th place in the world at that time.

Here’s some photos that i snapped during my visit to the Petronas Towers last month:
