Tonight is Soul and RnB night, the night when all the “kulot”, “emotions” and “groove” were expected to come out from our final 12 Philippine Idol contestants. So here’s my take:

SIZZLING HOT:

• Apple Chiu – Natural Woman
• Drae Ybanez – You’re Still A Young Man
• Mau Marcelo – Crazy in Love  

HOT

• Reymond Sajor – I’d Rather
• Pow Chavez – U Got It Bad
• Gian Magdangal – I Feel Good

WARM

• Arms Cruz – R-E-S-P-E-C-T
• Stef Lazaro – Proud Mary

WARMING UP

• Jan Nieto – Could It Be I’m Falling in Love
• Jeli Mateo – Always Be My Baby
• Ken Dingle – What’s Going On
• Miguel Mendoza – Let’s Stay Together

We have 3 contestants on the sizzling hot category tonight totally different from last week—bilog talaga ang bola. This only shows that the contestants should bring it every week and select the perfect song for their voice.

I noticed that after a contestant performed, diretso agad sa judges at wala munang interview (Pasok agad si Francis M sa comment niya). That’s good. This way, di nasisira ang momentum. After the last judge which happens to be Mr. C, dun pa lang mag-start ng interview si Ryan on how the contestant feel about the judges’ comments yada yada yada.    

   

There were conflicting views on Reymond‘s performance: Francis M felt it was filled with emotions while Ryan Cayabyab felt wala pang 50% ang emotions niya and one should be in love first in order to sing “I’d Rather” perfectly. Although i always like Mr. C’s deliberation on the performance of each contestants (honestly siya lang ang may substance ang sinasabi,  the other two judges are always saying the same things), i would like to agree with Francis M. Technically, malinis ang pag-kanta ni Reymond and i feel the emotions. No need for him to experience the story of the song dahil mas mahirap naman kung over-emote ang mangyari. 

With regards to Mau’s performance, ok na rin sa akin yung choreography niya sa “Crazy in Love“. Mr. C thought na medyo kulang sa dance moves pero ang tendency kasi kapag masyado kang magalaw sa pagkanta, nagiging “shaky” ang boses. I’d rather choose clarity at “linis” ng pagkanta kesa upbeat choreography. Besides, mataba si Mau, hihingalin siya kapag gumalaw pa siya ng sobra.  

Gian’s magic is still there although i agree with Pilita that the song choice is not really good for him. Pow is in her element but she shines more singing opm ballads. She was dubbed by Mr. C as the modern kundiman singer remember?

Apple has chosen the perfect song for her voice that’s why she’s in our sizzling hot category this week. And Drae took the risk with his song choice—sumugal siya and he won!

So tonight i’m voting for Drae, Apple, Mau and Reymond.  Gian and Pow are still the “shoo-ins” for the title so the pressure is on them. Medyo shocking nga lang ang magiging result tomorrow dahil 2 ang matatanggal. And why do i have this feeling that Jan, Miguel and Ken will be safe? Hmmmm.
