MRT Crash in Pasay Video, What Really Happened?

The MRT crash in Pasay was reportedly caused by a failed coupling procedure according to DOTC Chief Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya.

The MRT crash injured at least 34 people after the emergency coupling procedure of two MRT trains at Taft Avenue station has gone wrong causing the other train to get derailed and crash against the wall.

The coupling procedure is done when a defective train is being attached to a working train. The brakes of both trains are disabled with the working train pushing the defective train to reach its destination. This emergency procedure has to be done in less than 15 km per hour or else, the force will push the defective train onwards while the working train come to a sudden halt.

Secretary Abaya issued a public apology on Wednesday citing the department has “no excuse” for the incident. He assured the public that the result of the black box investigation will be released to the media today to give more light to the incident.
