Lorna Tolentino Talks About Matters of the Heart

Veteran actress and “Pahiram ng Sandali” lead star Lorna Tolentino is not ready to fall in love again, nor does she see herself being in a relationship once again following the demise of her husband, the late actor Rudy Fernandez in 2008.

“Bakit pa ako kukuha ng batong ipupukpok ko sa ulo ko?,” said the Grand Slam Queen in an interview on the set of her primetime series.

Lorna said that she is not hoping to find another partner simply because she isn’t looking for one. She said that she is content with the company of her sons.

“Kung companionship lang din e baka mag-agawan pa sa akin ang mga anak ko (laughs),” quips LT.

LT, however, won’t leave her doors shut if in case – just in case – another true love will knock on them soon.

Apart from attending to her family’s business, LT is also very busy with her primetime soap, “Pahiram ng Sandali,” which she top-bills alongside Christopher de Leon, Dingdong Dantes and Max Collins.

In a separate interview with Dingdong Dantes and Max Collins, both younger stars agree that they have learned a lot from their experience working alongside their veteran co-stars.

“That’s very good to hear kasi ganun naman talaga e. Saan ka pa ba matututo kundi sa mga mas nakakatanda sa’yo, sa mga taong matagal na ang experience sa trabaho nila. I feel happy na natututo sila sa mga na-oobserve nila,” replied LT.

LT continued that she really didn’t have to give any pointers to her younger co-stars since they are to her already professional artists.

“Hindi naman kasi sila talagang bago sa industriya e; marami na rin silang pinagdaanan. They know their craft kaya hindi ganun kahirap makipag-eksena sa kanila. Alam nila na lahat ng ginagawa namin ay trabaho,” she said.

Asked whether she would want to do another drama series after “Pahiram ng Sandali,” she said: “Wala akong choice e (laughs). Not unless GMA will give me a different kind of show.”

Although she had established her name in the industry as a drama actress, she has done several non-drama programs in the past. In fact, she co-hosted the showbiz-oriented talk show, “StarTalk” for a while. LT is still open to doing another talk show but she hopes it won’t be another showbiz-oriented talk show.

“Kung talk show naman, okay lang naman ako pero sana hindi siya showbiz-oriented talk show. Actually naiisip nga naming magbabarkada (Sandy Andolong, Gina Alajar, Amy Austria) parang ‘The Talk’ o ‘The View’ na although may pagka-showbiz, hindi siya tungkol sa intriga o tsismis kundi seryosohang usapan,” she explained.

Some of her scenes in “Pahiram ng Sandali” are similar to her personal experiences as a woman, a mother and a bereaved wife. Does she still draw on her personal experience to aid in her acting?

“Actually hindi ko na hinuhugot sa sarili kong experience yung pag-arte ko e, dun ko nalang talaga hinuhugot sa istorya. I remember one time nga my son asked me, ‘Ma, do you still get stimulus for your acting from your personal experiences?’ Sabi ko, ‘Not anymore, e’ (laughs). Unless nalang kung yung katulad ng ibang eksena kung saan bigla ka nalang iiyak nang wala namang pinanggagalingan sa istorya, dun na ako humuhugot sa sarili kong experience,” shared Lorna.
