One Minute Movie Review: ‘The Lucky One’

Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling have infectious chemistry in the love-and-fate romantic movie, "The Lucky One."

THE LUCKY ONE

Main Cast: Taylor Schilling, Zac Efron
Supporting Cast: Blythe Danner, Riley Thomas Stewart
Director: Scott Hicks
Genre: Romantic Drama
Released By: Warner Bros.
MTRCB Rating: PG-13

Synopsis: U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault (Efron) returns from his third tour of duty in Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive–a photograph he found of a woman he doesn’t even know. Learning her name is Beth (Schilling) and where she lives, he shows up at her door, and ends up taking a job at her family-run local kennel. Despite her initial mistrust and the complications in her life, a romance develops between them, giving Logan hope that Beth could be much more than his good luck charm. –Warner Bros

The Positive: Followers of Nicholas Sparks’ books will surely delight in the fact that Zac Efron was chosen to portray the role of Logan, the young soldier in the fate-driven love story. Efron’s charismatic presence and his chemistry with Taylor Schilling are enough to make this chick-flick a pleasant “kilig” movie to watch.

The Negative: Scott Hicks maintains the ingredients in making a Nicholas Sparks movie: an ounce of mushy, an ounce of cheesy, a couple of eye-candies, a dash of conflict, and a liter of syrup (for sweetness).
