Yahoo.com's top search term for 2011 wasn't a person or a news event but a popular gadget.

The Apple “iPhone” bested controversial celebrities, the year’s top tragic event and even America’s most wanted terrorist in the list.

It’s the second gadget to top the annual list after the Playstation 2 in 2001 and 2002.

Last year, the Top search term in Yahoo! was the “BP Oil Spill” followed by the “World Cup.”

There are two repeaters this year in the Top 10: reality star Kim Kardashian (#4 in 2010) and American Idol (#9 in 2010).

Surprisingly, Justin Bieber (#8 in 2010) and Lady Gaga (#5 in 2010)–the only two artists who got more than 2 billions of pageviews on YouTube–did not make it on this year’s list.
