Jalen Rose Gets 20 Days in Jail for DUI

Jalen Rose was sentenced on Wednesday to serve 20 days in jail for a March drunken-driving crash near Detroit.

The ESPN analyst and former NBA player pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in May. He got recommendation and public support from several prominent figures to not serve jail time but the court decided otherwise.

In a statement that he released on Wednesday, he apologized and promise to not do it again.

“I’m humbled, I’m embarrassed, and I’m very apologetic. I can assure everyone that nothing like this will ever happen again,” he said.

Keith Davidson, Rose’s lawyer, said the verdict was a little unfair.

“This is a man who has given millions of dollars to charity, started schools around the world and worked endlessly for the community, yet her [the judge] average sentence is 17 days, and she sentenced Mr. Rose to 20 days.”
