SONA 2011 – The GMA-7 Special Coverage Airs Today at 3 PM

The Filipino people—their respective political affiliations notwithstanding —eagerly await President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III's State of the Nation Address (SONA) this afternoon at 3 p.m.

On this occasion, GMA News and Public Affairs—the only broadcast news organization in the country to win the prestigious Peabody Award twice—gears up yet again for another comprehensive coverage to deliver to the viewing public the President’s SONA on both GMA-7 and GMA News TV Channel 11.

SONA 2011, GMA-7’s live coverage of President Aquino‘s SONA, airs at 3 pm. It is anchored by one of the most respected broadcast journalists in the country today, Mike Enriquez, and is powered by the full roster of the formidable GMA News organization.

GMA-7’s flagship primetime newscast 24 Oras and late-night news source Saksi, in turn, make sense of President Aquino’s report to his “bosses” through analysis of PNoy’s speech and interviews with representatives from the “pro” and “anti”-administration movements and most importantly, the general public.

GMA News TV Channel 11’s special coverage, on the other hand, starts at 2 pm with the TV special Si PNoy at Ang Pinoy, which features the first exclusive sit-down interview of PNoy since he became President of the Republic. This special, hosted by the country’s most awarded broadcast journalist Jessica Soho, reminds viewers of PNoy’s promises when he was first elected into office.

Ang SONA ni PNoy—GMA News TV’s live coverage of PNoy’s SONA anchored by Jessica Soho—comes in at 2:30 pm. Equipped with the state-of-the-art news gathering and nationwide transmission facilities, Ang SONA ni PNoy provides a comprehensive coverage of the President’s SONA and the reactions of the different sectors of society.

At 8:00 pm, GMA News TV’s Brigada airs its SONA Special: The First Year of the President—an in-depth look at the first year of President Aquino’s presidency.

Right after Brigada is GMA News TV’s flagship newscast, State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, which features a special team of reporters and producers offering a variety of perspectives through which viewers can better make sense of President Aquino’s SONA and evaluate his first year in office.

A week before the SONA, GMA News has started the series Mga Pangako ni PNoy, a progress report on the six priority areas that are supposed to take center stage in PNoy’s six-year administration. Mga Pangako ni PNoy airs in 24 Oras and Unang Hirit on GMA-7 and in State of the Nation, News To Go, and Balitanghali on GMA News TV.
