Titanic II Sinks on Maiden Voyage, 100 Years after the First Titanic
We all know the story of Titanic via the hit James Cameron movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
The film was based on the giant ship named Titanic which was launched into Belfast Lough on May 31, 1911. However, on its maiden voyage to New York, the “unsinkable ship” hit an iceberg that claimed 1,517 lives.
Almost 100 years later, an English man named Mark Wilkinson bought a second-hand boat, which he rechristened as the Titanic II. On its maiden voyage, from his home in Birmingham, England to a fishing trip in West Bay harbor in Dorset, the 16-foot cabin cruiser sank.
According to the Dorset Echo, the coast guard officers spotted Wilkinson clinging to the bow of his rapidly sinking ship.
“It’s all a bit embarrassing,” Wilkinson told the Sun newspaper, “I’m fed up with people asking me if I hit an iceberg.”
