Premise: After America is ravaged by a zombie plague, a lone band of survivors fights the living dead while they cross the nation from coast to coast. They stop in an amusement park, where they believe they will be safe.
Characters have been named after the cities/towns that they’ve been rescued from or originated from.
The film focuses on two men who have found a way to survive a world overrun by zombies. Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) is a big wuss — but when you’re afraid of being eaten by zombies, fear can keep you alive. Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) is an AK-toting, zombie-slaying’ bad ass whose single determination is to get the last Twinkie on earth. As they join forces with Wichita and Little Rock, who have also found unique ways to survive the zombie mayhem, they will have to determine which is worse: relying on each other or succumbing to the zombies.
The zombies in Zombieland have been described by the casting director as:
Ferocious, infected people that move erratically. They are diseased, as opposed to undead. These are not the lumbering walking dead of Romero’s zombie movies, but instead the super jacked up 28 Days Later / Dawn of the Dead (2004) zombies. They are scary and gnarly and gross.
Shortly after finishing the filming of Zombieland, Woody Harrelson had an altercation with a TMZ photographer at New York City’s La Guardia Airport. His defense was that he was still in character and thought the cameraman was a zombie.
“Zombieland” is directed by Ruben Fleischer, who is making his feature film helming debut.
The movie is set to hit theaters on October 2nd, 2009.
