ABC 5 Will Fight for Philippine Idol

After the scoop that GMA 7 is eyeing to buy the Philippine Idol franchise from Fremantle Media (Owner of the "idol" brand), ABC 5 managing director Bobby Barreiro said that the world's famous reality talent competition is still their property and they will fight in whatever negotiations other networks are doing to get the show.

Bobby Barreiro confirmed that ABC 5 has plans for the second season of Philippine Idol refuting rumors that they will no longer carry the show because the first season was a flop.

Although ABC is still coming to terms with Fremantle Media for the season 2 of Philippine Idol, Barreiro said there is no indication that the show would be given to another network.

“Fremantle people are very professional. They’re long-term players. They won’t burn bridges just because there’s a better offer from another network,” Barreiro added.

The first season of Philippine Idol was aired on ABC 5 on July 2006 and ended on December of the same year where Mau Marcelo of Lucena City emerged as the winner. It was hosted by Ryan Agoncillo accompanied by the three judges Francis Magalona, Pilita Corales and Ryan Cayabyab.
