American Idol Special Event is a Charity Project

The surprise event was revealed on tonight’s show which is also American Idol’s 200th episode and it’s called “Idol Gives Back“, a fund-raising project to help children and young people in extreme poverty in Africa and in the US as well. Idol Gives Back will be held on April 24 when the top 6 perform inspirational songs. This is their gesture of gratitude for making American Idol the most watched television show on earth.

After the performance show, viewers will vote for their favorite contestants. For every vote cast, American Idol sponsors Coca-Cola, AT&T and others will match a donation money to the charity.

The two-hour special results show on April 25 will be graced by Gwen Stefani, Josh Groban, Pink, Michael Bublé, Annie Lennox, Il Divo, Bono and the sensational Kazakhstan journalist Borat. People can also donate money during the results show. Proceeds for the said event will benefit both US and Africa.

With Simon Cowell doing charity work, this is indeed a big project!
