So You Think You Can Dance Season 2

I've just finished watching the whole season 2 of So You Think You Can Dance (Except for the finale of course, which is going to be held tomorrow) and i must say that it's the most entertaining show in the US this Summer (speaking as if i'm in the US but of course it's rainy season here hehehe)! For those who haven't heard about it, it's like the dance version of American Idol. The dancers, the judges, the host and the whole show in general grew on me as the show progresses. I've even mentioned in my post last month that i prefer the original host but now i'm eating my words---Cat Deeley, the new host who happens to be British is fabulous! And the dancers are all incredible! My favorites from the beginning are Travis, Benjie, Ivan, Allison and Heidi. Unlike last year when there were 4 Pinoys who made it to the finals, there were none this year. Anyways, here are the highlights of the final competition:   Donyelle Jones and Travis Hall performed Contemporary Jazz (left) to Ray Charles' Georgia on My Mind. On right photo is Donyelle Jones reunited with her former partner Benjie Schwimmer in their second Vienesse Waltz performance of the season. The judges like their first Vienesse Waltz that even though they couldn't pronounce the name of the dance, they've nailed it. But this time, the judges didn't like their performance. I say it's because of the routine that was created for them---it's a little bit boring at this stage of the competition. But i still like Benjie! Find out below my favorite to win the title and my prediction on who will actually win:

Heidi Grotskreuz (not sure about the spelling) and Donyelle Jones did an all-girl broadway which i find very simple and lackluster. The judges blamed the choreography, of course, since the dancers just doing what is being thrown at them.

Another great performance of the season is the all-male hip hop routine by Benjie and Travis (right). The concept is about two geeks who transformed into dancing machines. The audience and the judges had a great time with this one.

On the left photo is a disco routine by Travis and Heidi which is alright for me but the judges loved it. This routine earned the Mary scream by the way.

On the right photo is the dancing cousins Benjie and Heidi. It’s a salsa routine, Heidi’s strength and Benjie’s element, too aside from swing. So what more can you expect, another unforgettable performance from these two amazing dancers.

To sum it all, Travis is the flawless dancer of the night who has given a wow performance in all the routines that he performed. He is a great soloist, too. He’s the most well-rounded dancer in this competition. This is definitely his night. If the title of the show is “So You Think You are a technical dancer,” he will win.

Benjie is a real performer. He wowed us from the beginning. Mary complemented his “back bone”, “wish bone” and “funny bone” in dancing. It’s always delightful to watch him dance because he has a great personality, too! If the title of the show is “So You Think You’re a Performer with Great Personality,” he will win.

Heidi is very dedicated to her craft. She loves to learn other techniques aside from her specialties. She’s the dark horse who can win it all. If the title is “So You Think You Can Grow as a Dancer” she will definitely win.

Donyelle is a hip hop dancer, teacher and choreographer who can also perform any kind of dance even those that she can’t even pronounce. Very versatile. One of her strength is having an expressive eyes. Mia Michaels, one of the judging choreographers, even mentioned that if the title of the show is “So You Think You Have Expressive Eyes” Donyelle is it.

So here’s my prediction:

  • Who should win: Travis Hall
  • Who will win: Travis Hall
  • Who i like to win: Benjie Schwimmer
  • Ranking:
  • 1st Place – Travis
  • 2nd Place – Benjie
  • 3rd Place – Heidi
  • 4th Place – Donyelle
