Ayala Malls Cinemas highlights the richness, diversity and cinematic artistry of Asian filmmaking with their exclusive “A-Reel Asia: Stories from the Heart of the East,” a new premium platform for Asian cinema, starting this September. Showcasing a selection of heartwarming dramas, thrilling blockbusters and critically acclaimed films from across the region, including titles from Indonesia, India, South Korea, Japan and China, “A-Reel Asia” is a groundbreaking initiative that brings these films to local audiences, providing alternative content for an all-new cinema experience and cultural appreciation.

Committed to its role as the premier destination for world-class film appreciation, Ayala Malls Cinemas transforms itself into a cultural tastemaker, starting with director Hanung Bramantyo’s “Traditional Kamasutra Teacher,” an epic tale of love, betrayal and power from Indonesia.

“Traditional Kamasutra Teacher” is a visually stunning and culturally rich film that explores Javanese traditions, gender roles, and emotional depth. Directed by Hanung Bramantyo and starring Raihaanun, the film tells the story of Ratri (Raihaanun), a young woman raised by a respected gowok, a woman who teaches young men about household and sexuality before marriage. After a betrayal by her lover, Ratri seeks revenge through his son years later.

“Traditional Kamasutra Teacher” not only launches “A-Reel Asia,” but also the initiative’s sub-category of “Indo Jewels,” which aims to celebrate the rich narratives and cinematic artistry of Indonesia. The film also stars Lola Amaria, Alika Jantinia, Devano Danendra and Reza Rahadian.

The film, known in Indonesia as “Gowok: Javanese Kamasutra,” was nominated at the 54th International Film Festival Rotterdam, and selected for the 24th New York Asian Film Festival. It is visually breathtaking, with beautiful cinematography and gorgeous, authentic native costumes. It spans genres, a sweeping tale that features drama, history, romance and thrilling storylines.

“Traditional Kamasutra Teacher,” as well as succeeding films to launch under “A-Reel Asia,” are available in the following Ayala Malls Cinemas: Manila Bay, Circuit, Glorietta, Feliz, Solenad, Central Bloc, Centrio, Trinoma and Fairview Terraces, for P275 in Ayala Malls in Metro Manila and Solenad, and P250 in Central Bloc and Centrio.

Through A-Reel Asia, Ayala Malls Cinemas goes beyond exhibition to carefully curate a showcase of Asia’s finest films, ensuring that local cinephiles, families, and cultural enthusiasts experience not only entertainment, but also meaningful collective cultural experiences through the movies that can only be fully experienced in cinemas. Moviegoers have more Asian Cinema to look forward to, with the following exciting categories coming soon:
