A sword-wielding princess. A medic with a heart. Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Mamoru Hosoda tells a story across time and space with Scarlet, which finds a home exclusively in SM Cinemas.
In Scarlet, a battle-trained princess from the medieval era fails to avenge her father’s death, and awakens in a mysterious afterlife. She meets a young man who lived hundreds of years from her future, and his compassion challenges her desire for vengeance. Scarlet and her new companion are faced with a journey that makes her discover a life beyond violence.
Hosoda started his career in animation in legendary studio, Toei Animation, formerly known as Toei Doga in 1991. He had his directorial debut in 1999 with the first film in the beloved Digimon franchise, Digimon Adventure. From then his focus is set on freelance work, directing box-office hits such as The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006) and Summer Wars (2009). He gained worldwide recognition with his 2018 film Mirai, which was nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at the 91st Academy Awards.
Scarlet takes audiences on an adventure exclusively at SM Cinemas on December 10.
