Angela Ken Shares Her Journey and Struggles in Debut Album

Star Music artist Angela Ken released her self-titled debut album that is filled with her teenage experience, friendship, and self-love in this digital age.

Writing the album reminded the rising singer-songwriter of her humble beginnings as an artist.

“Kailangan mong balikan palagi kung saan ka nagsimula, kung ano yung naging pundasyon bakit ka na nasa sitwasyon mo ngayon, at bakit ganito karami ang sumusuporta sayo,” Angela said during the mediacon for her album.

The album “Angela Ken” consists of two brand new songs, “Buti Pa Noon” and “Payapa Lang,” and six previously released singles, including “Ako Naman Muna,” “Dagdag Na Alaala,” “It’s Okay Not To Be Okay,” and “Sila Pa Rin.” One of the soundtracks of “2 Good 2 Be True,” “Akala Maling Akala,” and “Click Like Share’s” OST “Kontrol” are also part of the album, which was produced by ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo who discovered Angela through TikTok.

Its key track “Payapa Lang” talks about how important it is to value people who stand by during happy and lonely times of life. One of its lines goes, “Sadyang kay hirap amuhin ang lahat kaya ingatan ang sa iyo’y tapat. Kung sila’y lilisan, hayaan mo na lamang. Mahalin silang sa’yo’y ‘di nang-iwan.”

Aside from the release of her debut album, Angela also recently took home two music accolades—Best Inspirational Song for “Ako Naman Muna” at the Awit Awards 2022 and Best Secular Song for “It’s Okay Not To Be Okay” at the 44th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA).

“Hindi ako nag-expect pero syempre nagdasal ako. Hindi ma-process ng utak ko na kanta ko yung sinabi na nanalo. Cloud nine talaga yung feeling ko at nakasama ko pa yung nanay ko kaya hindi ko nakontrol yung iyak ko. Sobrang speechless pa rin ako hanggang ngayon,” narrated the “Lyric and Beat” star on her Awit Awards experience where she also sang “Ako Naman Muna” live.
