Ogie Alcasid is Now an Official Host of ‘It’s Showtime’

There is a new addition to the family of “It’s Showtime” that is celebrating its 12thanniversary this month.

Ogie Alcasid received a rousing welcome from the noontime show hosts led by Vice Ganda, Kapamilya stars na sina Lovi Poe, Janine Gutierrez, Ian Veneracion, his children Sarah, Leila, and Nate Alcasid, and Regine Velasquez.

Overjoyed, he cried and was left speechless for a moment. He then said, “Alam mo naiiyak ako. Vice naalala ko yung winelcome niyo ko sa ‘Showtime’ through ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan.’ Apat na taon na iyon. Sino po ang makakapagsabi na pagkatapos ng apat na taon kasama ko na kayo? Vice, salamat sa words of encouragement mo.”

He promised to give netizens a dose of laughter every day because God chose this path for him.

“I just want to say God is good. Of course, last year hindi maganda yung year na yun for all of us, lalo na sa akin. Namatay yung tatay ko, but you know what, minsan may plano tayo, pero si Lord may plano pala. Lord, nilagay mo ako dito, pagsisilbihan Kita araw-araw. Pasasayahin natin ang madlang pipol dahil nilagay Niyo ako rito,” he added.

Vice Ganda then welcomed and thanked the award-winning singer for choosing to be part of “It’s Showtime.”

“Welcome, congratulations, and thank you very much na nagdesisyon ka na magsama-sama tayo araw-araw. Tulong-tulong tayo sa pagsisilbi sa madlang pipol. Ang laki ng maiibigay mo sa programa at sa mga taong pinagsisilbihan ng programang ito. Laki ng sayang dinadagdag mo sa araw-araw. Nagbigay ka ng ibang lasa,” he stated.

His wife Regine also joked her husband for crying. She also thanked the show for welcoming her husband.

Regine, who ribbed her husband for crying, thanked the show for the warm welcome. It assuaged her fears that it would be difficult for Ogie to break in since the hosts have bonded as a tight-knit family through the years.

“Noong umpisa medyo natatakot ako kasi ang liit-liit na nga nito baka apihin pa. Natutuwa ako noong pagdating niya dito and you (Vice) texted him, he was so happy. Ngayon hindi na ako natatakot kasi alam ko safe siya at nakikita ko siya sa TV,” she shared.

She is also happy that the show gave him chance to showcase her husband’s funny side, “Kilala natin yung asawa ko bilang magaling na singer at magaling na songwriter. But it’s also part of him being a really good comedian. For a while, he was not able to do that. Parte ng buhay niya iyon so ako lang ‘yung pinapatawa niya. Kasi yung comedy nga niya na-supress so dito good luck na lang sa inyong lahat.”

Netizens were equally happy as Ogie as their wish for him to be part of the program permanently came true. The show’s hashtag #ShowtimeLabindalaWOAH, Ogie Perfect Paayuda, Toxic Free trended nationwide on Twitter.

The show started with a kick-off of the program’s 12th anniversary titled “It’s Showtime Labindala-WOAH!: 12 Taon Saya at Pagsasama” with the hosts singing Vice and DJ M.O.D’s original composition “Toxic Free.” Walang hyphen after tox?

Ogie also took part in the “Madlang Pi-Poll” segment alongside her wife, Regine Velasquez. The Alcasids decided to give their total earnings to the madlang pipol. The total winnings of the Alcasids and the pot money of the madlang pipol amounting to P105,000 and the P45,000 from the program were divided into 12 lucky contestants. Meanwhile, Julieann Torres was named as the last Reina ng Tahanan monthly winner after receiving the highest score of 93% from judges Ruffa Gutierrez, Janice de Belen, and Lara Quigaman-Alcaraz.

But aside from these surprises, viewers should watch out for the Wildcard special of “Reina ng Tahanan” on November 15 to 19 and is followed by the “Reina ng Tahanan” finals on November 20. The newest season of “Tawag ng Tanghalan” is also set to start on November 22. The most-anticipated “Magpasikat” happens on November 27.
