Taylor Swift Surprise Drops ‘Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version)’ After Swifties Get It Trending on TikTok

Taylor Swift dropped a surprise revamp of her beloved 1989 single “Wildest Dreams” on Friday (Sept. 17) after she said she was inspired by Swifties getting the song trending on TikTok. The pop-up “Dreams” was especially unexpected because the next “Taylor’s Version” revamp album due out is 2012’s Red collection, which is slated to drop on Nov. 19.

The updated version of the song originally written by Taylor with Shellback and Max Martin features production credits that list the singer along with Shellback and Christopher Rowe — Martin seemingly was not involved with the re-recording; Shellback and Martin co-produced the original version.

“Wildest Dreams” has been popping on TikTok lately because Swifties have been using it to soundtrack their clips using the service’s new “slow zoom” filter. “Someone said slow zoom makes you look like the main character I said make it Taylor’s Version pls #wildestdreamstaylorsversion #swifttok #slowzoom,” Taylor posted on TikTok Friday morning.

Over on Twitter, the star shared, “Saw you guys got Wildest Dreams trending on tiktok, thought you should have my version,” ending with several kissy-face emojis.

In August, Ed Sheeran dropped a behind-the-scenes video of him re-recording Taylor’s “Everything Has Changed,” in which he sang the harmonies to the chorus from Swift’s Red track; Red is the second project in Swift’s efforts to re-record her back catalog in a bid to reclaim ownership of her first five albums.
