‘G Diaries’ Shares the Inspiration Behind Well-Loved ETV Shows in Online Special

“G Diaries” continues to highlight Gina Lopez’s legacy of love with a four-part online special about well-loved educational shows such as “Sine’skwela,” “Hiraya Manawari,” “Bayani,” and “Math Tinik.”

“G Diaries: ETV Shows,” which was posted last Sunday (May 31) on Facebook, takes viewers through the process of how Gina brought Educational Television (ETV) to life and introduced the people involved in the making of its popular programs, like former “Sine’skwela” scriptwriter Charles Bautista and Kapamilya host Winnie Cordero, who was part of the “Sine’skwela” main cast.

Part one focused on what inspired Gina to start ETV and her involvement in the whole process in order to make the project a success. Part two tackled how ETV was able to make its way to classrooms in the Philippines with the help of multiple organizations and donors, including groups of overseas Filipinos.

The third part of the special highlights ETV’s significance to its viewers, and the lasting impact it had to the production team and cast including Rino Ramos, a former resource mobilization officer. Rino shares, “Dahil sa ABS-CBN Foundation, dito ko nakita ‘yung fulfillment. Hindi kayang bayaran ‘yung maging part ka para maparating mo ‘yung serbisyo.”

The last part commemorates the classic theme song of “Sine’skwela” as it features different people singing along to the song including National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab.

Through ETV, the ABS-CBN Foundation was able to produce educational content that encouraged kids to learn and explore while having fun. The success of these shows paved the way for schools to utilize this mode of teaching not only to enhance the learning of students but to equip them with the values and knowledge they will need for a better future.

As the Philippines shifts to distance-learning due to the global health crisis, ETV shows will be crucial in the government’s program as they seek to implement an educational system wherein students will learn from television, radio, and online.

Meanwhile, netizens posted positive feedback about “G Diaries: ETV Shows.” James Cruz Asuncion commented on Facebook, “Ang saya manood ng educational programs na mas lalong kailangan natin sa mga panahon ngayon.”

Christopher Cabrales, on the other hand, said that his students continue to learn from these ETV programs. “Hanggang ngayon, pinapanood ko pa rin sa mga estudyante ko ang Sine’skwela at Math Tinik.”

“G Diaries,” is a multi-awarded show now on its fourth season. Gina launched it in 2017 with the aim of spreading love by showcasing the stories of love, hope, and success of communities all over the nation. Her brother Ernie, who also serves as president of the ABS-CBN subsidiary Creative Programs Inc., took over as host of the program after she passed away.

“Batang ETV” viewers can still watch the “G Diaries” online special on the program’s Facebook page, and on iWant and the ABS-CBN Foundation YouTube channel, where other episodes of the show are also available. Catch new episodes of “G Diaries Share the Love” on ANC every Saturday at 6:30 am and Metro Channel every Sunday at 4:30 pm.
